Using dry dock
How the superintendent builds a specification, compares yard quotes and approves a change order.
Dry dock is one project: the specification, the yard quotes, the budget and the progress in the yard. The technical superintendent ashore builds the specification from the class jobs and adds yard items. A person with publish awards the yard and approves change orders found during the docking. The chief engineer can edit the specification. He cannot award the yard unless he has publish. In the demo Ravi Menon has edit. Kaan Erdem and Maren Holt have publish.
Dashboard and pages
The project list is http://localhost:4400/app/drydock . It shows docks by status, the next docking per vessel from the special-survey date, and budget against actual. One dock is http://localhost:4400/app/drydock/ and then the id: the specification, the quotes, the award, the change orders and the progress.
Dock history is http://localhost:4400/app/drydock/history . Closed docks show the yard, the days in dock, items done and deferred, and budget against actual from the docking report. Integrations is http://localhost:4400/app/integrations/drydock .
Workflows
These need edit: create the dock (drydock.create), collect the jobs (drydock.collect_jobs), add a yard item (drydock.add_item), request quotes (drydock.request_quotes), start the dock (drydock.start), set an item’s status (drydock.item_status) and close the dock (drydock.close). The close button is Close the dock. Request quotes is marked as an outbound call to the yard portal. It contacts no yard.
Award needs publish (drydock.award). The button is Award on each quote. It sets the budget from that quote. Approve a change order needs publish (drydock.change_order) and only while the dock is in the yard. You enter what changed and a USD amount.
A specification line that points at a planned-maintenance job is completed with Mark done on that job card, which needs edit on planned maintenance, not on dry dock.
Shared records
The job card is the record. Dry dock is that list with a dock header. Inventory’s hazardous-materials lines and hull findings are not on the specification. Finance is not posted from the dock. Budget and actual are computed: budget is the awarded quote plus 10 percent, and actual is the awarded quote plus the change orders.
What the demo simulates
Quotes are calculated for three invented yards, in the demo and in database mode. MV Aldersea’s next dock has three quotes in. Aldersea and MV Northwind also have a closed dock. The next dock is 60 days before 31 December of every fifth year from the build year, and it lasts 18 days. Intermediate dockings are not modelled. Nothing is sent to a yard.
